On November 23, 2024, the Lanna Youth Network and Children's Rights Network organized the Lanna CRC Festival #4 under the theme "Child-Friendly Space to End Violence Against Children and Women" at the Chiang Saen Meeting Room, 3rd floor, Duangtawan Hotel, Chiang Mai Province. The event commemorated the 32nd anniversary of Thailand's ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and Women.
The morning session included a variety of activities. From 9:15 to 10:45 AM, there was an on-stage performance titled "Saw and Fon Khan Dok" (Thai Lanna traditional singing). This was followed by a roundtable discussion from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM to review and assess the progress of recommendations for promoting and protecting children's rights. The discussion sought to foster a shared commitment among the Lanna Children's Rights Network and the Youth Activist Network for Children's Rights.
Representatives from government agencies, CBO and NGO from the Upper North and Central regions participated in the discussion. Topics addressed included:
- Elimination of all forms of violence against children and women, including physical, mental harm and Gender-Based violence.
- Adolescent rights and reproductive health challenges, including sexually transmitted diseases and sexual harassment.
- Addressing online threats and eliminating violence related to sexual exploitation, human trafficking, and other forms of abuse.
- Children’s rights in relation to the environment, focusing on the need for a clean, safe, and sustainable environment, climate change, and the 2024 flood crisis.
- Protection and rights of children, particularly children of migrant workers and issues related to personal status development.
In the afternoon, the event featured a campaign parade from Chiang Mai Buddhist temple to Tha Pae Gate where evening event took place. There were activity booths and exhibitions by various organizations aimed at raising awareness and fostering understanding to end violence against children and women.
During the event, a public reading of five recommendations were stated:
- Eliminate all forms of violence against children and women, including physical punishment, gender-based violence, and domestic violence.
- Promote adolescent rights, addressing reproductive health issues, sexually transmitted diseases, and sexual harassment.
- Combat online threats, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking of children and women.
- Ensure children’s rights to a clean, safe, and sustainable environment, addressing climate change and the impact of the 2024 flood crisis.
- Protect the rights of children, particularly those of migrant workers, and prioritize the development of personal status recognition.
