International Migrants Day 2024 (IMD)

Every year on December 18, the United Nations recognizes International Migrants Day. This commemoration began after the 1990 Convention on the Protection of Migrant Workers and Their Families was ratified, emphasizing the vital contributions of migrant workers to the development of countries of origin, transit, and destination. It also underscores the need to ensure the protection of their human and labor rights based on principles of fairness and non-discrimination, regardless of race, religion, skin color, or gender.

On December 18, 2024, the Northern Labor Network led and organized International Migrants Day event. The day began at 11:00 AM, with migrant workers presenting recommendation letters to the Chiang Mai governor at the Chiang Mai Provincial Office of Labour Protection and Welfare. In the afternoon, 4 - 9 PM, the event continued at the Chiang Mai Religion Practice Center, featuring booths from including the MAP Foundation, HRDF, MWF, BEAM Foundation, Shan Youth Power, and other. There were performances, and the declaration of the IMD 2024 statement.
