May 1st International Workers' Day.
How can a palace be built without workers? How can a luxury car be assembled without workers? How can products be manufactured without workers? How can a city be kept clean without workers? How can society progress without workers?

How can anything be created without us, the workers?
.
While the rich are praised as talented and hard-working, the profit, the wealth, the success they have achieved is extracted from the lives of the working class, taxes, and public resources that the state bestows on capitalists. But unfortunately, workers get nothing in return.
.
Why do most workers have to face hard labor with no rest, with their wages barely covering living expenses? Food is expensive, transportation is expensive, fuel is expensive, electricity is expensive, accommodation is expensive. But wages are mere pittances compared to the labor expended. Existing laws are not enforced - we are forced to work overtime, paid below minimum wage, illegally fined through wage deductions, and then unfairly dismissed. Even if they consistently tell us to acquire more knowledge, learn new skills, take online courses - it doesn't help because, indeed, we lack bargaining power to claim what is owed to us.

All of this is happening while Chiang Mai's economy, especially tourism, is booming rapidly. Weren't we told that if the economy grows, everyone benefits equally? Instead, we have to work harder due to increasing tourists, without any improvement in our quality of life.

Workers, like us, have to persevere just to survive, to see friends, family, and loved ones. The working class must continue living to drive society forward, as they are the main force of society. And when the working class unites, society will change as a whole.
"Their wealth comes from our poverty."

International Workers' Day is when workers around the world gather together to show their solidarity. We have nothing to lose and we have a world to win.

For Chiang Mai this year: Everyone is invited to march in the demonstration and show your solidarity! From the Three Kings Monument to Thapae Gate, with performances by workers, demands put forth, and discussions on worker issues.
