CHIANG MAI – In an era where digital transformation is reshaping global advocacy, the MAP Foundation is ensuring that grassroots migrant communities in Thailand are not left behind. On February 21–22, 2026, the sub-grant leaders of Migrant domestic workers from Mae Sot, Bangkok, Sumut Prakan, Phang Nga and Chiang Mai, around 30 persons gathered at the La Mai Hotel in Chiang Mai for an intensive workshop titled “Gemini AI workshop,” supported by the Porticus Project.

The two-day workshop aims to support migrants in Thailand to understand Basic AI and use Gemini AI as a helpful assistant in their daily work. It also seeks to raise awareness about digital safety and ethical considerations when using AI to ensure their protection.
The workshop introduced Gemini Artificial Intelligence (Gemini AI) as a practical tool for social change. Participants learnt how to use AI in their daily tasks and project activities, such as assisting with meeting note-taking, managing routine work, and drafting project proposals.

From Complexity to Clarity: Making AI Easy to Understand
On day one, the facilitators introduced Google Gemini as not a replacement for human effort, but as a "Thinking Partner or Assistant". A major priority of the first day was Digital Safety, Ethics and Basic prompts. Migrant Leaders were trained on strict protocols to protect community privacy, emphasizing that sensitive personal data, such as real names and contact details, must never be fed into AI tools. Participants also learned how to handle “AI hallucinations” and cultural biases, making sure that human rights principles are always the final check for any AI-generated content.

The "Master Prompt": A New Skill for Modern Leaders
Day two shifted into a high-energy "hands-on" practice. Participants were introduced to the "Master Prompt" formula, a structured way of communicating with AI to get the best results. By defining specific Roles, Tasks, Contexts, and Formats, participants learned to turn Gemini into a helpful assistant.
Key Practical on day two:
The Virtual Note-Taker: Participants practiced using AI to summarise long meeting minutes into clear, actionable bullet points, significantly making admin work easier.
Brainstorming & Proposal Writing: Using AI as a creative partner, leaders drafted project outlines and brainstormed solutions for community challenges.

Advanced Research with NotebookLM: One of the highlights of the workshop was also using NotebookLM for deep research. This allowed participants to upload their own field reports and "chat" with their data. This "Source Grounding" technique ensures that the AI only provides answers based on the organization's verified facts, maintaining high levels of accuracy for reports and policy papers.
Bridging the Language Gap
For migrant leaders, sharing their story and impact with global networks can be difficult because of language barriers. The workshop also explains how AI can be part of a smart translator. It helps local migrant leaders translate their real field stories from their mother languages, such as Myanmar and Shan, into clear and professional English or Thai, while keeping the true meaning and experience of migrants.

Ending the workshop
The workshop ended with a review of all the lessons. After learning how to use these tools, sub-grant leaders under the Porticus Project can now manage information more easily and save time.
As one participant noted, “Although the workshop was basic, the lessons taught and the discussions shared were very practical and well connected. We learned how to search for information (by using AI) and how to give proper instructions (prompts) effectively. "
Another participant also added, “The workshop was interesting and very useful. I hope more workshops like this will be organised”.
The MAP Foundation continues to lead the way in ensuring that technology serves the most vulnerable, proving that when grassroots passion meets modern innovation, the potential for impact is limitless.
