Human Resources (Full time position)

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand

           

MAP Foundation is a registered Thai foundation working to support the rights of migrant workers from Myanmar (Burma). Together with migrant communities, MAP works on issues of labour rights, access to education, the right to health, and women’s rights and empowerment.

 

Job Summary: This is a full time (40hrs a week) position. While being independent, the position reports to the Director. One aspect of the job is to oversee the Human Resources functions for the foundation including staff evaluations, support for MAP staff capacity building, and monitoring organizational policies especially related to child protection and safeguarding. The Human Resource Officer will also contribute to MAP Foundation through overseeing non-Thai interns and volunteers, and will assist the Director by supporting communications and networking.

Duties:

Human resources

1. Assist in recruitment and contract administration:

  • Ensure that accurate job descriptions and terms of employment are in place with contracts in English and Thai or Burmese.
  • Recruitment for vacant positions including coordinating interviews and conducting reference checks
  • Prepare and organize new staff orientation.
  • Follow up with new staff and coordinate review for probationary period.
  • Conduct Exit interview, and follow up handover process.

 

2. Staffing support:

  • Maintain all files and confidential information of personnel (digital and hard copies).
  • Ensure follow-up on probation, performance review, contract renewal.
  • Follow-up appraisal procedures.
  • Plan and organize staff capacity building and organizational development activities with the Director and the Coordinating Committee.
  • Act as contact person and handle internal and external grievances with relevant supervisors and the coordinating committee based on the organisational policies.
  • Promote regular recording of time sheets and leave forms.
  • Help coordinate other staff events as needed.

 

3. Assist with visas, work permits and other documents required.

  • Monitor and handle visa applications, work permits, renewals, and termination for non-national staff.

 

4. Ensure all HR policies and procedures are readily available to all staff

  • Coordinate and make sure that the policies and organisational handbook is up to date and available in staff languages (in Thai, Burmese and English, and Shan as needed)
  • Contribute to updating or development of policy by researching and drafting related policies, liaising with resource persons or donors, and ensuring that staff are involved using a participatory approach.

 

 

5. Coordinate administration of intern / Volunteer programmes

  • Manage the volunteer/intern program for non-Thai volunteers, including responding to enquiries, interviews, assisting with visas, placement, other logistics and evaluation.
  • Oversee interns during their placement and ensure that they have activities that are meaningful to the organisation.

 

Programme support

  • Assist Project teams in translating and/or editing donor reports as requested.
  • Respond to enquiries from other organisations and researchers, and organise visits to MAP Foundation to meet with staff to discuss migration related topics.

Preferred Experience and Competencies:

  • Desire/ previous experience to work in a non-profit environment for the cause of migrants from Myanmar
  • Collaborative work approach including participatory methodologies
  • Able to manage confidential information
  • Ability and experience in working in multi-cultural environment related to Thai-Myanmar
  • Analytical ability and problem-solving skills in relation to employee concerns and management policy
  • Good interpersonal and mediating skills
  • Conflict management skills and experience
  • Experience with HR processes and policies
  • Language skills: Thai (required) with English or Burmese language skills an advantage.

 

 

Pay scale and benefits

Starting pay is 18,000-25,000 Baht per month (previous experience will be considered).

Annual bonus according to availability, plus annual salary increase.

Social security is provided.
