We recognize the importance of social awareness and people’s involvement in the promotion and protection of women rights and SOGIESC right. We therefore invite all who support the human rights of women as well LBTQ and our demands to strike /stop working and come out to march, sing and rise up to dance to end gender-based violence and all forms of oppression so call One billion Rising. 

We come here to show our women’s collective power on March 8, 2020, to commemorate the International Women's Day and the struggle of women in the world’s history and in the community, as well as show to the society that If women stop the world stop.

From the work of our network, we discover the exclusion, discrimination and violation of the human rights of women in various forms. This is the gender-based violence and a structural violence. For example,

Women human rights defenders face strategic lawsuits against public participation, threatening, sexual harassment, and a systematic violation and degradation of human dignity

Indigenous women face a violation of land rights, community rights, and rights to natural resources. Indigenous youth are at risk of forced marriage. Stateless indigenous women have no access to civil rights and political rights, such as the right to vote.

Women with disabilities do not have access to educational opportunities, to work opportunities, and the disability premium at 1,000 baht.

Lesbian, bisexual and trans women are discriminated against based on their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE). This leads to employment discrimination, bullying in school, forced dress according to their biological sex.  They unable to access to right marriage (Marriage Equality). There is no gender recognition law for transgender people. Corrective rape faced by LBT women.

Migrant women do not have access to decent work and social welfare. They do not have access to informations due to lack of translations.  They also can not access to shelter (the Safe House) when they face gender-based violence and need to be treated. The children of migrant workers themselves do not have equal educational opportunities.

Women sex workers face stigmatization and criminalization based on their work. Instead of providing protection from exploitation, the State continues to use criminal law, the Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act, against women and trans sex workers. 

The majority of women do not have access to safe abortion. And women of all marginal identities, of all ages, including elderly women, women living with HIV, women with disability and indigenous women do not have access to sexual reproductive health and rights. The healthcare services without discrimination and stigmatization are still inaccessible for these people.

Women do not have access to the justice process when they face domestic violence, rape, and sexual harassment as well as when they faced online and cyber harassment.

In emergencies and humanitarian crises such as climate change, PM 2.5 levels higher than the standard level, and the outbreak of COVID-19, including the war, women face more burden while they faced those emergencies and crises because vulnerable to subjected to gender based violence and hunger inequality. In addition, women cannot fully participate in any problem solving process and policy advocacy. In peace building processes, women are still invisible and voiceless.

The issues of women are rooted in militarism, neoliberal capitalism, patriarchy and fundamentalism, which is socialized and cultivated through mechanisms of various institutions such as religious, family, educational institution, political institution etc. This affects women’s body autonomy and agency and also their safety and liberty, especially marginalized women.

From the human rights situation faced by women, we urge all sectors of society included government to come together to support our action plans as follows:

1. Supporting women access to resources, shifting power relation, provided equal opportunities for all groups of women 

2. Empowering women at all levels in order that women are able to be a change maker who has the mindset of human rights, gender justice to create a sustainable social movement

3. Supporting social and political participation and decision making processes of women at all levels including their participation in humanitarian crisis and sustainable development for instance climate change, the PM 2.5 levels and the outbreak of COVID-19, as well as the war and /or armed conflict 

4. Building peoples’s movement for gender and social justice by including all women right issues at all levels: the local, national, regional, and international levels

5. Support and promote media’s role in public communication to protect and raise awareness on the human rights of women and LGBTIQs in all dimensions by eliminating stigmas and reproduction of the gender stereotyping. Media has a role to  educate society about the impacts of gender stereotyping and stigmatization on discrimination and mysogyny while recognizing the strength of women, and participate in eliminating the myths and social prejudices based on gender both at individual level and social structure levels. 

6. Pushing for policy and legal changes, promoting democracy, amending the constitution, and advancing women right and SOGIESC right by applying various human rights instruments and international law, such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR), the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), Universal Declaration on Indigenous Peoples (UN Drip), the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (Beijing+ 25), the Universal periodic Review (UPR), Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs), the Yogyakarta principles, and the others international conventions that the Thai government has ratified  and has not ratify yet

7. Promoting the participation of the civil society and communities included evaluating and monitoring processes of improving women rights situation that the Thai government committed after ratified  and reviewed any human rights instruments and international law in order to develop government accountability and transparency to promote the human rights of women and LGBTIQs and gender equality, as well as to end all forms of violence against women and girls, which leads to a peaceful, just, inclusivity  and sustainability society 

In herstory of women's struggle, it shows that the movement of women is a strategy that leads to social, legal and policy changes. The International Women's Day is not only an opportunity for women to come together to celebrate but it is also an opportunity for women to rise up to protest against society and the state in order to claim our rights and equality. The society and the state must recognize that women right is human rights.
